Sarah Ransome is a survivor of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's sex trafficking ring who has become an advocate for other sexual abuse survivors. In 2021, she published a memoir about her experience, Silenced No More: Surviving My Journey to Hell and Back.
Details of her story:
- Recruitment At age 22 and new to New York City with aspirations for a career in fashion, Ransome was introduced to Epstein through a woman who was paid to recruit her under the false promise of helping her get into the Fashion Institute of Technology.
- Abuse and threats Ransome alleges that after being lured to Epstein's private island, her passport and phone were taken and she was raped on the second day of her first visit. She described suffering physical and mental abuse for about nine months, during which Epstein allegedly threatened to kill her and her family if she went to the authorities or tried to escape.
- Ghislaine Maxwell's role Ransome has identified Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's former girlfriend and accomplice, as the "chief orchestrator" and "enforcer" who facilitated and participated in the abuse.
- Escape and victim-blaming She was able to escape and return to the United Kingdom, but faced victim-blaming and gaslighting for years, with some accusing her of being a "gold digger" or a "prostitute" for being an adult at the time of the abuse.
- Legal action and memoir Ransome filed a civil lawsuit against Epstein and Maxwell in 2017, which was settled in 2018 with no admission of wrongdoing. After Epstein's death in 2019 and Maxwell's 2021 sex trafficking conviction, she published her memoir to share her story and advocate for other survivors.
